Your Whirlpool Cabrio (or Maytag Bravo) washer sounds like a jackhammer during the spin cycle, banging against the sides and flashing uL (Unbalanced Load). This usually means the Suspension Rods have worn out.
The Fix: You need to replace the set of 4 suspension rods. It takes about 20 minutes and requires no special tools.

Watch this guide to see how to lift the top deck and swap the rods. Itโs much easier than you think.
๐ Parts & Tools Checklist
You must replace all 4 rods at the same time to keep the tub level.

The Part (Suspension Rod Kit):

(Note: This kit fits most Cabrio, Bravos, and Oasis models.) -
Lithium Grease (Recommended):
White Lithium Grease
(Apply a little to the plastic cups to prevent squeaking later.)
๐ Step 1: Access the Rods
Unplug the washer.
- Secure the Lid: Use strong tape (duct tape) to tape the glass lid shut.
- Lift the Top: Locate the 2 clips or screws (depending on model) at the front gap. Release them and hinge the entire top deck of the washer up like a car hood.
- Support It: Use a prop stick or have a helper hold the top open.
๐ ๏ธ Step 2: Swap the Rods (One by One)
Do not remove all rods at once, or the tub will fall!
- Lift & Unhook: Reach in, lift the tub corner slightly to relieve weight, and unhook the plastic bearing cup from the top bracket.
- Remove Old Rod: Pull the rod out from the bottom.
- Install New Rod: Slide the new rod in, hook the bottom first, then pull up and hook the top cup into the bracket.
- Repeat: Do this for all 4 corners.
๐ Step 3: Calibration
Cabrio washers need a “Calibration” after parts replacement.
- Search online for “Whirlpool Cabrio Calibration Mode” (it involves turning the dial 3 clicks right, 1 left, 1 right).
- Run the calibration cycle. The machine will hum and click for 3 minutes to learn the new suspension stiffness.
